Leola’s work has been featured in galleries throughout the United States including New York, Washington D.C., Central Illinois, and Florida.Ī private interment will be held at Old Union Cemetery in Lincoln. She was a member of the Prairie Art Alliance and the Hoogland Center of Arts in Springfield, IL. Leola was listed in the Who’s Who in American Women, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Personalities in the West and Midwest, and American References. Her work was contemporary, and her style showed enthusiasm for freedom of expression through the use of brilliant color and compositional pattern. She was known for painting in watercolor, acrylic, oil, mixed media, and pastel. Leola studied with nationally known painters such as Edgar Whitney, Winn Jones, George Cherepov, Harold Gregor, Tony Couch, Irving Shapiro, and Frank Webb. Leola attended Illinois Wesleyan University and Illinois State University as well. Leola holds an Honorary Doctorate from MacMurray and a master’s degree in art from the University of Illinois. She graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville. Leola was the last of her immediate family.Ī native Illinoisan, Leola split her time living in Lincoln, IL and Naples, FL. He preceded her in death in January of 1994. She married Ward Dowling on October 31, 1952, in Lincoln. Leola was born on August 2, 1925, in Lincoln, the daughter of Elmer and Eva (Sheridan) Schrader. ![]() LINCOLN, IL – Leola Dowling, 97, of Lincoln, Il, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at St. Peasley Funeral Home of Lincoln is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Lincoln-Logan Food Pantry. Always one for a good bargain, Olan took pride in his thrifting and garage sale finds. And he was a long-time fan of the New York Yankees, Kentucky Wildcats, and Tennessee Volunteers. Olan was a skilled guitarist who also enjoyed collecting recorded music, especially traditional country and bluegrass by Johnny Cash, John Denver, and Doc Watson. Olan and Karen were also long-time Lincoln Courier and Bloomington Pantagraph carriers. Later, Olan worked for Logan Correctional Center as a food supervisor, the Weyerhaeuser Company box factory in Lincoln, and as a part-time security guard. Olan was the founding pastor for the Bible Baptist Church in Havana, IL (now Grace Baptist Church) and also served in San Jose at the First Baptist Church. Together, Olan and Karen ministered in churches in Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois. Olan graduated from Baptist Bible College of Springfield, MO, in 1968, where he met his wife, Karen. two grandchildren: Kimberly and Jason Keiffer and two sisters: Marilyn Winczowski and Brenda (Greg) Johnson. Turner, Traci (Dwayne) Keiffer, and Olan R. Olan is also survived by their children: T.J. He was united in marriage to Karen Smith in Jacksonville, IL, on Aug. Olan Ray Turner was born June 1, 1947, in Middlesborough, Kentucky, the son of Clarence E. A Celebration of Olan’s Life will be held at The Loft of Normal on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. Private family services and burial were held at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln. ![]() Turner, Sr., 75, of Lincoln, passed away at The Loft of Normal on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 8:06 p.m. Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Rescue Squad. He worked at General Electric in Bloomington prior to Olympia School District from which he retired as a Maintenance Supervisor. He then served in the United States Army. Gene was a 1950 graduate of Atlanta High School. Mattingly and one brother, Robert Mattingly. He was preceded in death by one son, Alan E. Gene is survived by his son, Eric (Renate Klausen) Mattingly grandchildren: Jody Stout, Travis Stout, Erica (Molly) Mattingly, and Jared (Brandy) Mattingly, and one great-grandson, Brayden Ribblet. She preceded Gene in death on September 3, 2022. He was united in marriage to Mary Louise Pharis on July 26, 1958, in Atlanta. Mattingly, 90, of Atlanta, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.Įugene William Mattingly was born on September 10, 1932, in Bloomington, the son of James William and Martha Frances Whitfield Mattingly.
